I can buy a Class C motorhome for the same amount as a 1-ton diesel pickup truck alone. $65K for the Class C or $60K plus for the truck and another $45K for the camper.
$105K for the new truck and truck camper, which the owner has to integrate by adding truck mat, tie-downs, wiring, oversize mirrors, backup camera, turnbucklers, overload springs, heavy duty shocks, etc. etc. etc.
With a Class C motorhome one can buy one and take it to the nearest gas station and be ready to hit the open highway. Big difference with a person buying a truck and then a camper and putting the two together.
The heaviest campers that are the size in terms of interior space of a Class C MH will need a DRW truck and at that point it is little better than the motorhome in terms of mobility and where it can be taken.
The one advantage of the pickup truck and camper is being able to remove the camper and having a truck to use for non-camping purposes. And for this a SRW is the best option, which also means a smaller camper.
