Greed? It's a free market! People are willing to pay more for something that does not require a half ton+ pickup/SUV that itself costs 50-10% more than a similarly equipped minivan or mid sized crossover.
I agree with all of the above except your question. Yes it's a free market and if sellers can get away with as large a profit margin that the market can bear you think they will lower their price? Conversely if the prices are to be lowered do you think that these small vehicle owners would not relish the savings? Just remember that the same free market is responsible for bringing goods from offshore at the cheaper prices that we ALL like to pay, American jobs notwithstanding. So what do you call that if not greed?
Now let me go read the rest of the posts for my lessons in economics. I must have forgotten what I learned in school. ;)
A few points from an Economics teacher...
1. Teardrops are not overpriced if they are actually selling for those prices that you and I consider too high for us. The market sets the price (interplay of demand and supply), not the manufacturers. IOW if inventory is moving, by definition the price is not too high.
2. As long as demand outpaces supply, the equilibrium price will remain too high for many people. A high price over a sustained period of time will incentivize suppliers to produce more, and then price will start to drop as inventory increases to meet pent-up demand.
3. My advice is to wait until this happens...or find a cheaper alternative. My guess is that used teardrop prices will generally remain high as long as the new teardrop prices are high, especially if you shop for a used one from a dealer that also sells new trailers.
Of course, these are generalities and individual results may vary!
