Why cant I use ratchet straps for tie downs????

I am aware that the spring loaded tiedowns are the most desirable... however having been in the car hauling business I have an abundance of ratchet straps both 2" and 1" ..GOOD quality. Is there any ...

When I had my 8' pop-up TC I used 1" ratchet straps for tie downs. It worked great. I never left it on there long term, just for camping trips.
When I switched to an 11' hardside camper I got the proper tie downs. I suppose I could have kept using straps but I find the metal happijacks easier. There's no stretch, nothing flapping, nothing to abrade and tear, etc.
