We started camping in a pup tent and then the back of a pick up truck with a shell. After awhile we rented a pop up but tent camping is what we mostly did. We transitioned to a pup to get off the ground. Fast forward. We got older, canvas stayed wet longer, so it seamed. Kids outhe of high, school and that meant more disposable income. We love camping so the next step to simplify the WORK involved with set up and tear down had to get easier as we are still getting older. First trailer was 18 feet but had features that were uncomfortable after a while. Second camper 31 feet. 8 years later we got our current camper 35 feet. Large? Not to us.
Reason for larger campers? Disposable income and comfort. It costs to own an Rv. We get what we can afford. I call it "disposable income" because if you are really living on a shoe string budget, like we had to when the kids were little and the income level just wasn't there, you get what is most important first, and toys second. Camping is not a necessity like paying the electric bill or getting milk for the kids. It is a luxury, entertainment feature. So those of us who make camping a priority get the equipment we can afford at that time in our lives.
