Why bigger? Because: Kids.
We wanted a rear bunk room for the kids. While they're younger, that lets us put them to bed, leaving my wife and I the main living area to talk, play cards, etc. without disturbing them on those occasional nights when we can't sit outside due to cold/storms/mosquitoes/neighbors.
And I remember being a teenager, which my boys will be at some point. Having a place to go for a bit of peace and quiet will be a big plus for them.
That bunkroom is a space that's "theirs". They chose what to bring to it, how to organize it, where they sleep. They keep it clean. They've got some ownership in the camper. They have some control.
Oh, and because: Wife. Our previous smaller TT never had enough storage for her. Pots, pans, blankets, food, vac, broom, garbage can... all the things that never had a good place in the old camper now have places to go. She's happier, which makes ME happier. Much happier.
I'd prefer a smaller trailer. I'd prefer no slide. Easier to tow, easier to find sites for, easier to maintain. But I don't really want to go camping alone. The bigger TT means happier campers, which means I get to camp more, and have more fun.
Once the kids are gone, we'll downsize as small as my DW will let me get away with.
