Thanks for the link^^
Mike, there is one, if not two, Airstream dealers in Georgia. I was searching a 300 mile radius last night for a specific model we want to see in person. Had I not set foot in my parents 34' airstream classic they bought new in 2000, I would be more open minded to other campers. Airstreams are made to last, and that's evidenced by tons of 1960+ models on the road today.
Even still, I've made 3-4 trips to large volume RV dealers this year looking at other campers, some very vice ones. But the quality of materials and craftsmanship are sorely lacking in nearly all boxes I saw. I was impressed with Bigfoot made in Canada, but they are too small for our needs. But an Airstream is in a class of their own. That doesn't mean I think all other campers are junk. That would be an absurd assumption. I almost bought a few over the last year or so. But I couldn't find anything as nice as the Airstream. I'm not a Kool Aid drinker, in case anyone is curious.
The more you look into Airstreams, the more you will agree I suspect. It does seem a love it or hate it proposition. The styling I guess, not sure. And in many cases I've read here, just plain ole jealousy and envy. Lots of BS and misconceptions floating around about Airstreams and what type of folks buy them. I was shocked when I recently saw it here. Naive I guess.
I've been invited to borrow Airforums members Airstream for the night, come to their homes and see how all the settings work, invited to Rally's which are casual and fun, etc. Just a great community of folks. Speaking of which, Alumalina is a rally with about 100 Airstreams coming up in SC Smokies in Oct. There is a thread on Airforums Rally sub forum about it. Wife and I are going and can't wait.
Airforums is the forum to poke around on if your at all curious. New ones are $60-100k, but many folks buy used. Not suggesting that's a priority for you. For example a $85k 2016 might sell used for $50-55k in 3-5 years. Also, lots of folks, are owners of much older, 1970-1990's models which could be bought for $15-25k. Some that I've seen remodeled, updated, etc are amazing. I have not taken this option off the table either.
I'm just snowballing, but the idea of buying used or lightly used is very attractive to many, myself included. We work for a living, registered nurses. Buying a tow vehicle and Airstream is a huge investment to us. An investment in our children's future. No RV parks in our plans, we will see the country with the Airstream. Think Chevy Chase every summer for 2-3 weeks of national park trips. And many memorable weekends closer to home in Smoky Mtns between big trips.
Hijack over. But it's my thread. Ha ha.
