I didn't see the 2000 miles deal in 7 days. Now I might be a bit bummed by that too. My husband has a tendency to drive as long as he can to get someplace, doesn't go over well with me, one of the reasons DD and I "wonder" around alone. I don't know if he will ever be able to relax long enough to do it. He is a workaholic, I used to be but kind of got over it. He! He! He isn't retired because he is afraid he will be bored. I don't drive that far a day and I'm in no hurry, of course, I'm also retired.
I have to laugh when he says bored. I was an accountant for over 30 years and exhausted all the time while working, camping would not have been my thing back then. But now I'm mowing a 4 acre yard, taking care of an a ground level 1800 sqft and basement 1800 sq foot house. I have a big garden and am in the process of trying to sell rental houses near Houston. And he worries about being bored. I have to get away sometimes I'm so pooped.
I can tell you if you have kids it probably isn't relaxing. But shopping isn't it either and I no longer find fulfillment in that.
Again try some short trips. I used to go to Galveston often, there are campgrounds there and a really nice one several miles out of Galveston, the amusement park on the pier now.We would take the Duck boat on tours and eat at Gaidos, so some luxury there. And she can always shop on The Strand, something for everyone. Or go to some of the the other beach type areas. The water isn't clean in Texas but its still fishing.
If you guys have little kids that could be tiring also to go that far that fast. Maybe try one more time and not bite off such a big trip.
