Agree with this. Look around your area for campgrounds that are near things you both like to do. And keep the trip short, being in the car for longs periods of time is very tiring for adults and kids. Plan out a trip, then sit down with your wife and ask her thoughts. Try and include a day or afternoon, that you are in charge of the kids to give her some quiet time to go off on her own or something.
You might ask her about the trailer. There are a couple things about our trailer that I absolutely hate. I'm counting the days until my husband says we can trade it in. That doesn't stop me from camping now, but it does diminish the fun.
