What do you mean by "weight limit is 7,700"? Do you mean tow rating, GVWR, payload?
7,700 seems really low for a tow rating. It's way too high to be your payload. So, I assume that's the truck's GVWR? That has nothing to do with how much trailer you can tow. That's the max weight you should have on the truck's axles.
