I know more money spend SHOULD get you better toy, but I was using the $180 winch commercially for few years and still have it.
You see the angle of my ramps on the picture. Here I park in the gutter so it is not that steep.
On couple of occasions I had to load 9000 lb forklift on flat.
When the rear went up on the ramp, the bottom of the mast would lift front wheels off the ground. So I was dragging the forklift up the ramp, while dragging the mast on asphalt. NO PROBLEM.
Having dual batteries on Powerstroke, I never bother to run the engine while using the winch.
The only problem I had with it- one time I pulled all the cable out- the bolt holding the end come off and I had to rebolt it.
Don't assume all $180 winches will give you such service, but it did work for me.
Talking about danger - I spend my whole life doing pretty danger professions and am one of few who survived those jobs with all fingers.
