I have had a winch on my vehicles since 1973, all Ramsey and I wouldn't have anything else. JMO. The unit I have on my rig now is a Patriot 15K with a wire rope. If I were to get another I would get nylon rope, their lighter and easier to work with. I have pulled my rig twice with mt TC on it No problems. I also bought all of my NECESSARY hardware for OK Offroad. I also have an extra 100 ft of nylon rope just in cast. Two tree savers, different lengths, snatch block, extra shackles, heavy duty gloves. I also have it run through an emergency cut off switch
, just in case. I have it mounted in the front using a Ramsey bumper. I all the years that I have used the winch I never had to pull it backwards. Although I have looked at Warn in the past where you could move it back and forth. The problem I see is that when the TC is on the truck it maybe hard to mount the winch. Further you would have to beef up the factory hitch as OEM's are not very strong.
