Window AC in a Truck Camper?

I am not understanding the reasoning of the big power hungry air conditioners they put on truck campers!I have had the 13.5 and 11K on TC's I have owned and there noisy and require a lot of surge power to operate..Many a post on will the Honda 2K run this one or that one..

I am running a test right now with a 5K window unit in my TC and it draws less than 5 amps and 500 watts with my Honda 2K on eco and purring along..

95 outside right now and 71.6 inside with "direct sun lite" only set at 5.5 out of 8 on the AC cool mode...72 in the house with a heat pump AC.

So why don't they put window units in TC's like they do small trailers?
  • Yeah,I am thinking the rear window as permanent but the little 5K is so lite that, why would I make a permanent change.Mixed feelings and not many or any guides...Did I mention quiet compared to the roof tops..

The roof tops are a rip off and do not cool as well as a window units from first hand knowledge..

    But,If it ain't Torklift,it don't fly.(laughing)
  • I've often thought about changing to a window unit, but then I lose a window. Maybe when we're done "updating" the interior and it's brighter inside. Would gain clearance too.
