In addition to the insulation ideas suggested, get yourself a winter sleeping bag, unzip it, and use it as a quilt. It will keep you toasty with little or no heat in the cabover. I bought a -20F bag for something like $70. That rating is overly optimistic. But the bag has worked well for any cold temperatures we have encountered. We have bags in a range of temperature ratings that we use for different times of the year.
Our bags include a lightweight one that stays on the bed all the time. That one is large enough to tuck in on the sides and bottom. Then we add another bag as needed. The top bag does not need to be as large - just large enough to cover the bed. The sleeping bags have been more economical than blankets. Next to the mattress is a fitted sheet plus a regular sheet beneath the sleeping bag(s).
For additional information, pm me.
