winter in Anza Borrego

Spent a great wk end at Borrego springs
Went to a lot of places my grandpop took me in 1962
2 that I remember are Pegleg monument and split mountain

it was 75 and great sitting around the campfire and seeing old friends
Every year we meet and camp at the American legion.
the road to split mountain was easy 4 wheel.
that why I like the Bronco pop up,I can explore where I want.
Cant find any pics, but in 1962 old Pop had a 1952 Willys Jeep pickup 6cyl
That was an F head.

This is the anticline at split mount
  • Hey, we want to go there. What a cool anticline. Geology fascinates me. Would it be too hot in late March or early April? Campgrounds nearby or places to boondock? Thank-you for sharing. Any more photos of travel tips?

March is perfect and great for starwatching.
theres a dry camp about a mile away or you can camp there at split mountain.
and talk about history, the trails were explored by John C Fremont,Kit Carson,Kearny's Army of the west,The Butterfield stage, the Mormon Bn
and De Anza expedition of 1776 .Also check out sculptures and if your a vet stay at the American Legion, great watering hole

  • Looks like a pretty cool place. Didn't realize there was so much history there, too. Already added to my bucket list.

Late march and early april is perfect. It is late April early may when it gets a bit too warm. Lots of wildflowers. You can boondock anywhere in anza borrego state park as long as you park no more than 1 car length from the road. You could actually park and camp right at the anticline if you wanted.

Fish creek is a must visit for anyone who wants an offroad adventure.

  • This looks like an awesome place to go and explore. I'll have to put this one on my must do list.
