Winter RV Shows

Novi, Michigan February 5-9

Can't wait. This is one of our few annual "date" nights a year. We drop the kids off with gramdma for the night, hit the RV show, have dinner (while discussing said RV dreams) then off to a movie. I guess you know you've got the jones for camping pretty bad when you schedule the annual RV show as a date night. Good times.

The Little Rock show is Feb. 7-9 at the Statehouse Convention Center. All the dealers in central Arkansas participate, the Convention Center is jammed to the walls with RVs and there are no used, all new.

Went to this yesterday and came away pretty disappointed.

Good news is weather was bad, so it wasn't crowded. Lots of sales reps, but no high pressure. Most only said hi and left you alone unless you had a question.

There were three dealers there -- Jeff Couch, Tom Raper, and Colerain RV, all regional dealers.

If you weren't interested in a monster fifth-wheel or class A, there was not a lot to see. There was one r*Pod, several A-liners, pop-ups and a few toy haulers of various types.

In the center aisle was a row of tables of clearance junk. I got a sewer hose for about 30% off retail. Also won a $10 gift certificate at Tom Raper for future parts and accessories purchase. So those paid for our admission.

On the way in was a gauntlet of a few campgrounds, and some extraneous dealers selling bath remodels & replacement home windows, gutter guards and jewelry (!?)

Enjoyed the day out with the wife, but it will be a while before we do again.

Cincinnati-Dayton (OH) January 16-20

I was advised that the Tampa RV Show was big. We went yesterday and it is. In the boating world, I would compare it to the Annapolis Boat Show. Don't know if there are bigger ones, but this one is at the Florida Fair Grounds and quite large.

Spent quite a bit of time in the Stuff, Services and Parts area and then the Campgrounds areas. Got a great deal at a campground in Florida for $89.00 for a week (normal price 256.00 for same time frame), a set of colored LED's for under the awning and lots of brochures for new furniture and awnings.

Though we are not in the market, we got to look at some of the units we have seen that interested us. Lots of new ideas, that we may add to our unit.

Always a fun way to spend a day or two.

Went to the Reno show last weekend. Two Dealers.
Only spent 1/2 hr as it was the same old thing-- NOTHING NEW
Inventory was BAD unless you were looking for PRe Owned
It should have been called "The same old thing with lots of used"

I guess the internet is good for something

We went to the St. Louis show this past weekend. Just like I figured it would, it cost me a lot of money! We're now going to be on our third TT, fifth camper total. Now I need to unload our last pop up!

Seems like the big trend this year is the outside kitchen and fridge. Neat idea, but I like my beer on ice and I cook with an electric hot plate most of the time so I saw no need for another potential leak with the extra access door.

I drag the DW to the New Orleans show every Feb. I don't intend to buy anything, but love to see what is new. NEXT YEAR, however, we won't have this work thing to deal with. I may make a new hobby of running the RV show circuit. Look out honey!

Dang! We were just down there...left Friday morning. Had I known, we might have stayed an extra day.
