winterizing-leave fresh water tank open or closed?

I drain the tank thoroughly then leave the main drain valve shut to prevent any entry by critters. I do leave the pressure relief valve open but that has a mesh screen so no bugs would get in that way. In the Spring, I fill and flush the tank then do the Bleach trick to sanitize the tank. This has been working for me fine for 8 years now.
