Winterizing Question

My friend just got a 2014 35 foot gulf stream TT , he was told by the dealer that you do not have to add antifreeze when winterizing just drain all the water, is that correct? He is keeping it parked upstate New York and will use it on weekends in the winter and just draining the water out for short term cold weather storage would be quite easy. Thanks, Lou
  • For those temps I would never trust just draining. I prefer to see RV antifreeze pumped thru every faucet, hot and cold, and outside shower and black tank flush if you have those. And if you have a clothes washer and/or fridge with ice maker those need to be winterized also.
  • I've been blowing out my lines for years and adding RV anti-freeze to the drain traps. Never had a problem.
  • That is not correct. Just blowing the lines out in those temps will not be enough. You run the risk of paying a lot more in damages if you dont properly winterize. Second, never put antifreeze for winterizing. Unless it is made for campers. There is this pink stuff that might be called antifreeze but its safe for people. If he got a 2014 tt just pay the small fee to have it done or buy the parts and do it while enjoying a case of beer.
  • Upstate New York gets pretty cold in the winter. After just spending tens of thousands of dollars on brand new trailer, the last thing you want to do is NOT winterize it.

Maybe the dealer is looking for some work in the Spring.
