I am getting back into Truck Camping and picking up a new to me Livin Lite 8.6 on Saturday. My truck is wired for a Lance which was my previous TC. I understand that the LL plug won't fit the lance so I am reaching out for some assistance. I looked through the sticky posts above but didn't find what I was looking for. A dealer told me the LL plugs into the 7 pin receptacle that I use for towing. But I plan on towing with the camper installed so I am looking for options. What do most do when towing, where do you plug your camper into? Are there spliters available or do most install a separate receptacle for the TC like I had for the LANCE? Thanks. Richard

Thanks. That points me in the right direction. My guess is most simply have a second 7 pin installed in the bed of the truck, but the spliced pigtail seems like a viable option.

I don't know what truck you have but Mine is a ford and it has the factory 7 pin and 4 pin. The Livinlite uses the same 7 pin as most tucks have but to get it home you need a slightly longer cord to plug into the receptacle under the bumper male 7 pin on both ends. That's pretty much what I did. I needed an in-bed receptacle for my 5th wheel and Gooseneck trailers. I use the same receptacle for my Livin' Lite camper. I put the socket in front of the wheel well on the driver's side. Just find a flat spot to mount the socket.

I ordered a new plug to install in the bed of my truck so we should be good there. My next questions is about the connectors. Unlike my Lance which had a cord hard wired to the truck, the 8.6 has a female receptacle for plugging into the truck. So I need a cord with male 7 pin plugs on both ends. The previous owner provided an extension with a male end and a female end. Is it an easy fix to rewire the female end to a male end or is there 3-5 ft 7 pin extension that I should be purchasing? I looked and so far I only find extensions like the one I have or with wires exposed on one end (which is why I think I can replace the female end w/ a plug). Thanks.

Yes- at least it seems you have everything except matching ends. Swapping out end of cord to Lance plug, your other end has the male 7 pin to camper, done.
Changing Lance receptacle to std 7 pin, you'd still need to swap one end of cord to 7 pin male, but there inexpensive. Unless there is a Lance in your future think that's what I'd do, it can be used for other things.
You have receptacle on order so just need a 7 pin male.

Either case
Just match functions and your good.

AnEv942 - Are you suggesting installing a Lance plug on one end instead of a 7 pin male end? I didn't consider that option and if that is possible it would save me having to install a 7 pin in my truck.

Alternatively, I wonder if I could swap out the LANCE receptacle w/ a 7 pin receptacle? Either of these options seem less expensive then fully installing a 7 pin wiring harness on the truck.

Anyone rewire their Lance plug to a 7 pin or plugged in a non-Lance TC using their Lance receptacle? Thanks.

Since you are installing receptacle in bed, and you have a cord, seems just replacing the female end would be the simplest.
Or, but not sure on description, if truck is already wired with Lance receptacle- if the extension you have is long enough, replace the one end with a Lance plug? That would save installation of bed plug?

That is certainly an option, but if everyone did that there would be no need for this board. I'm looking to capitalize on the vast amount of experience of the board members. Plus I know the poster won't simply be trying to sell me something. I'll reach out the LL if I can't find a suitable answer here. Thanks.
