Working on the road.

On the case of newer phones having more bands to work with. One problem few seem to consider, while the newest phone may be able to access the newest bands which have the fewest users accessing them. They always seem to be in urban or congested areas, where you can get a signal with ANY phone.
Very seldom will a provider place the newest technology out in remote areas where we have the most trouble getting signals and bandwidth.

Unless you will be out in the boonies a lot of the time...just get a standard cell phone with hot spot (your current phone probably already has it).

Then pick one of the unlimited plans...around $60/phone depending on provider. (or pick up a burner phone for $20)

It won't stream 2-3 high def videos but will do standard def video just fine. And unless your work requires constant video conferencing, it's not a big issue.

I have two of these Wilson boosters,coupled with a quality high gain antenna,I get coverage where most cannot without it..Even though they are outdated,they still work great on Verizon 4G..What I like abut them is,the ability to put the antenna(pictured on the right) right up against the back of the phone where the phone antenna is...



Once 5g takes over,all of them will probably be obsolete..LOL

The above is not an option if you telework.

In the end no matter which phone and vendor you use for a signal, your going to have to have a USB charge cable and USB plug in charging in your camper for it.

Devices operating as hot spots use more power then when not so plugging the device in to a charge while the hot spot is enabled is generally a good idea.

Personally, if I can't get a cell phone signal I resort to enjoying the outdoors and the time away from calls, emails and the web.

I've used Verizon for years - and rarely lose 4G connectivity.
Don't get lost in the weeds about which phone to get. DW and I have used Motorola phones purchased at Costco for years too. Those phones have hot spot capability and are unlocked. And we've used them internationally as well.

Historically, Verizon has had better coverage - but cell coverage is so ubiquitous now that any major carrier should be fine for US travel.

Stay away from the cheap contract phones sold at Walmart and other discounters.

Price is the culprit..Over $1000 for a Samsung or Iphone flagship and a brand new Pixel A series for $279(Pixel 3a) and the new Pixel 4a reported to be $349 to beat the Iphone SE's $399.

Yes,both Samsung(S10e) and the Iphone(SE) were recently born to take on the Pixel phones A series popularity and price, which even hurt the Google flagship with the same basic camera quality..

As noted, it isn’t just about system strength. Channels are very important.

For sure, there is the hardware and software parts of the equation. As someone who retired from that industry, I know a “little” about it. :D

Any way, I bought a Google device “one” time. The issue is the updates are really buggy and they bail on updates really soon with Samsung devices supported longer.. On the other hand, Samsung updates are a lot more tested. Pick your poison. For me, I’d prefer to keep a Samsung device for years instead of aging out a Google device. Sure, I was able to install a different OS on it, but I felt it ridiculous considering Google charged a premium price for a non-premium device.

Most of the security issues with Android devices are either Chrome related or app related. You’ll pick up those updates “assuming yoru device is supported by the app” with whatever android device you have. The popularity of Samsung flagships means your devices will be supported longer.

There’s a reason why Samsung dominates the Android market and Google is a minor player, and it isn’t just marketing. Over time, people realize that when you want the very best, you buy Samsung. Similar to Apple, you can be assured that the flagship phones are very, very good.
