Worn Spring Shackle plates

I've been working under my daughters horse trailer replacing the springs, axles and all hardware. The shackle plates in the pic below were new 4 years ago. I replaced them as they were real worn...some through the end. These really didn't have that many miles on them either

When I was shopping at the local commercial trailer supply shop I noticed these bullet proof plates from Dexter.

You'll notice they are more than twice the thickness of the generic plate.

If you don't have one of the more upscale setups like many of the trailers mfg'd past 2016, this is a pretty low buck upgrade. I'll be doing this on my Creek Side if I ever get the horse trailer off the cement slab!
  • What did the bushings look like, are they plasti, and war about the equilizer? All will be worn!
When you find one component is worn check all components. When I replacd all mine I had less sway!

So True. I replaced all the plastic bushings, bolts, plates about 4 years ago. What I didn't do was take the equalizer off, at least it doesn't look like I did cause it's in real bad shape, including the hanger. More work to be done. Time to break out the welder and replace some more parts!
