Would like info on a Monitor TT

Hello all, have been in search of a budget TT so we can see if we llke it before we move on to something else. Will most likely be used for a few years then upgrade.

I found a 26ft 1985 Monitor that looks to be in very good shape. I have googled my butt off and can't seem to find much info. What I have so far is that it most likely weighs in around 4500lbs, sleeps 4-6, the guy said everything is functional. Has furnace, A/C, stove/burners, head, microwave sure I'm forgetting something.

Was wondering if anybody has any info or experience with this brand and anything else that might help in my pre inspection buy tomorrow! Thanks in advance
  • Well, brought it home today! For its age it's in good condition! Everything worked well and with a little clean up and a few updates it'll be a great starter trailer. The guy even threw in his WD hitch!:). Thx again for everyone's input!
  • Thanks you ! Tires are new and bearings were repacked last yr. Will diffently chk everything you advised. Don't know what he towed it with but we will be towing it with a C2500 diesal Suburban.
  • First of all, I think you are making a wise decision in purchasing used for your first. It will not take you long to have a list of likes and dislikes for your next one. The main thing will be to check it out thoroughly. The biggest enemy of any RV, old or new, is water/water damage. Educate yourself on what to look for. If need be, find a friend who have an RV and is knowledgeable to go with you. As for your model, I have no info.
  • Monitor was a exact copy of the Holiday Rambler Alumilite except for colors. We had one about that age and it was an excellent trailer. I seem to remember that the axles used under it had the obsolete style wheels. All aluminum construction. Holiday Rambler used to make excellent products before it got gobbles up by the conglomerates that eventually killed several brands.
  • Check the age of the tires. Check that the fridge does actually work well. Look inside all cabinets at ceiling for signs of any leakes. How is the battery? What are you using to pull it with? Any signs of mold? Soft spots on the floor? Water heater work as designed? When was the last time the wheel bearings were changed or at least inspected and greased? Just a few more things to look at.

    NADA Average Retail

    Good luck.
