not to mention all those who claim a 2500 and 3500 srw are the same truck.
I’m still waiting for someone who thinks they aren’t to explain EXACTLY what, other than maybe a stiffer set of springs, physically separates 3/4 and single-rear-wheel 1-ton pickups.
Without making stuff up.
Same frame, same body, same axles, same brakes, same powertrain... I just don’t see the difference.
Depends on the manufacturer and year. Offhand, my uncle and I had 1979 Fords...his F-250 had a Dana 44HD front axle and Dana 60 rear axle. My F-350 had a Dana 60 front axle and a Dana
70 rear axle, with a beefy rear swaybar. (I think mine was a Camper Special.) My friend and I both had OBS Fords...the biggest difference was my F-350 having a Dana 60 front axle, and his having leaf-sprung Dana 50 TTB. I also recall mine had a payload package with an extra leaf in the rear spring packs, and HD front springs and shocks (it had plow prep).
I recall Dodges used different rear axles on 2500s and 3500s (maybe gas only...I think all diesels get the larger axle), and 2500s definitely used softer rear spring for quite a while. (I also vaguely recall Mega Cab 3500s use 2500 rear springs.)
OTOH, for many years, Dodge and GM 2500s essentially WERE 1-tons. Neither offered their 3500s as SRW trucks, so they beefed the HD 2500s up instead. I recall Chevy 2500HDs having a GVWR within 200lbs of so of a SRW F-350. (Don't look at me, I didn't make that call.)
