Here’s what I noticed and had to do some looking.
Check out that horizontally mounted Bilstein in the center of the 2500 axle housing. It is there to reduce axle wrap.
This is a hot topic of discourse with the performance diesel guys, for whom axle wrap and tramp is an issue during acceleration. They are finding the single, shock inadequate and have all sorts of hacks around it.
What’s odd is that axle wrap is normally an issue associated with leaf springs. Coils, as we all know, theoretically positive locate the axle with control arms that dictate it’s movement throughout its travel.
Carry on...
The center shock is only on the gas version of the 2500 so I am unsure why diesel guys would even be discussing it. The gas coil suspension is a few differences from the diesel coil suspension especially in the Power Wagon's due to how much softer the coils are for better articulation.
It’ a bolt on. Retrofitable.
Whether or not it came stock, the diesel guys are.experiencing axle wrap as,well. It’s apparently a thing.
No horse in this race. But there it is.
What I do know is that the need for anything like this is VERY unusual in a five link setup.
