To be clear, I would not do things improperly set up. According to my manual, towing a 4300# hard side trailer at 55mph, with a tongue weight between 430 and 500 pounds and with trailer brakes and appropriate mirrors is allowed and sway control is recommended.
I would also meet provincial laws with trailer brakes and mirrors and towing according to what the vehicle manual allows.
My vehicle just had new struts and shocks installed 6 months ago and it's going in for new rear sway bar links this week. The brakes pads were replaced and brakes were serviced within the last month. It has two week old Pirelli all seasons. It's also having an oil change and rear differential fluid change this week. It's always been well maintained in all aspects.
I am not trying to say "I'm right so I'm doing it no matter what anyone says". I'm reading everyone's opinions and am happy to learn and read more. But, I don't understand the implications that I'd have an improper set up, as according to my vehicle manual, everything would be proper and within limits. I would never go against the manual. I know Honda/Acura did a lot of testing to ensure what the vehicle could tow, I'd think Honda didn't hire engineers that didn't have a clue?
Are there any experienced towers here who have actually towed a TT with an MDX? That feedback would be awesome for me along with the feedback everyone has already provided.
I was trying to arrange another way to get the trailer before I made this post, but then after looking at numbers and such I was thinking, "hey, our vehicle might be able to do it so I should look into that further before spending all the time and money researching options". That's all this post was for. Not to ask for permission to dismiss my manual and make dangerous decisions.
