I might add here, that folks in the U.S. are a bit overly cautious. Perhaps it is due to the interstate highway system and the tendency to drive faster while towing. Generally speaking, the rest of the world safely tows with much lighter vehicles. Canada is an exception as our oversize trucks are commonly available there, and the Canadian trend is to U.S. standards as of late. Identical overseas vehicles sold in the U.S. often have de-rated tow ratings, to sell lucrative big trucks, I suppose.
Still, the best advice for light tow vehicles can be found in Canada. There is a gentleman by the name of Andy Thomson that is very experienced and a genious at setting up successful light tow rigs. He is an owner at Can-Am RV. I've found Andy Jr very helpful (by email) in the past.
