And you know what? A pup will do something a travel trailer will NEVER be able to do. You can unzip the canvas all the way around the pup. Only leaving the screen. It's like sleeping outside.
That was the best part of the Pop Up.Terryallan wrote:
The only thing the TT has over the pup, is the bathroom. There are a lot of times, I wish we had not down graded to a TT.
While a nice upgrade, that's far from the best. The need not to bend down for every stored item is what my wife loves. Having storage above your waist is so nice on the back and convenient.
Also to bring enough frozen meat and such for a week is the best advantage over the freezerless PUP fridge.
It's also nice to have dressers for all the sleeping areas so no more duffle shuffle. ;)
I guess the biggest upgrade is having room to put all the necessities without shuffling them from one spot to another, as needed.
Then I don't have to load the truck with chairs, screen room, and games anymore. It all stays in the travel trailer now.
When I do get that urge to have that screen house affect, I can either go into the screen house or use my Eureka tents to camp in. Nice to have the best of both worlds.
There is trade offs for everything. It just depends what trade offs you can live with to also get the benefits. Different strokes for different folks.
Right now for my family, the TT is much more desirable but we could make due with a PUP if it had the right floorplan and offered some of the new storage features as a swing galley that can store instead of a flip over galley. Plus now there's models with bay windows and swing up storage cabinets. Then again these low wall PUPs were over MSRP $16K!
But you see, we camp. We spend very little time inside the camper. As for loading the truck. Every thing we carried, was kept inside the pup. Only thing that went into the truck, was bikes. All our chairs, tables, food, and clothes, stayed in the pup. Plenty of room, and DW has a thing about wanting enough chairs to seat the whole CG. And the fridge in the pups were 3 way, but still small.
Our pups, (We had 5) starting with the 67 Apache, Had tons of storage. Under the dinette seats, and under the sofa, cabinets, along with outside storage, and the last one slept 9.
And with the 24 Volt drill. I could have the roof up, stabs down, and beds out, sitting under the awning in 20 min. Can't do that with the TT. Too much stuff to hookup. Still use the drill to lower the TT stabs.
So you see, for us, Other than the bathroom, and tearing down in the rain. It was a down grade. I miss pups, especially at the gas pump.
And what a wonderful world we live in that we have choices... you can purchase whatever works for your needs and wants, and I can do the same for my needs and wants.
I have a TT for some camping, and I have a Kayak and expedition tent for other camping trips.
