Please keep in mind that there is a big difference between a TT and a PUP. The PUP gives you better mileage, more maneuverability and better driving visibility and more of a camping feel but, it is still a PUP.
Compare to a TT with a PUP you lose cargo capacity, storage space, convenience of access to stove, sink, frig etc. while on the go. You can also expect to put it away wet and shake in the wind occasionally.
All that said, if you can rent a PUP for a few short trips, it will show you a lot.
I have both a PUP and a TT and I would not sell either. Each was its time and place.
On a cross country haul, I would keep a close eye on the PUP bearings and brakes.
