- K_MacExplorerMy (Sirius) antenna (1/2 square 1/2 oval flat) on an ext. cab F 350 sits 7" back from top of windshield and 28" from front of TC and I get 99% reception all across the entire top half of country east to west, preety happy.
- PhilRExplorer IIJust returned from round trip....Albany, NY to Libby, MT. 2019 Chevy 3500HD, crew cab short box, NL 8-11 camper. The shark fin on the cab roof worked well. Sat radio reception about 95% of the time.
- JimK-NYExplorer III cannot help you with your Chevy. I can tell you what worked with my 2018 Ram. I needed a new shark fin antenna in a better location. I could only find the antenna and appropriate wiring harness through the dealer. I did find the wiring specifics online. I had to remove the cover on the passenger side front window pillar to plug in the new wiring. I made a magnetic base that would work for attaching the new antenna to the hood. Before replacing the antenna, I had about 70% function. Afterwards that went to over 90%. I still lose signal in some locations when the truck is pointed exactly north.

On your new truck the access port for the antenna lead is in the dash behind the radio screen. I am unsure if a FAKRA connector will work with this and I have been afraid to pull the dash apart to check.
Have pulled my 2016 GMC radio to install SiriusXm external antenna with FAKRA connector. Found some good youtube videos first showing how to do it and color of Satellite radio wire at back of radio. Quite easy to do actually. Use plastic tool to pry silver plastic surround off. It is held on with clips. Right & left side clips can be stubborn but they do unclip. Use socket to take out 4 bolts holding radio in. Carefully tip radio out from top and find something to rest it on as you cannot take it completely out of hole. Many wires connected to bottom of radio but enough slack to access antenna wire & unplug OEM & reconnect FAKRA.
Hope this helps. - otrfunExplorer IIWe just completed a 2000+ mi. trip with the camper. The trip took us up the CA coast to San Fran, back down 395, and across Death Valley. Got perfect Sirius reception for the entire trip. Again, the OEM antenna sits just above the driver, on the roof of the truck, completely underneath the cabover portion of the camper. You would think this location would have completely compromised the signal at some point during our trip, but it didn’t.
- FishbreathExplorer III have a 2019 3500 gas SRW with a Northstar cabover camper. My Sirius works about 70% of the time and is dependent on the direction of travel for it to work.
On my past truck (2013 GMC) I was able to buy an antenna from Sirius and an adapter (FAKRA) to plug it into the GMC antenna port. This port was located behind the glove box and was easily accessed.

Please post if you come up with a solution
Bill - towproExplorerdepending on your location, SiriusXM has ground transmitters that your receiver will auto switch to. click here
- otrfunExplorer IIWe fully expected to lose Sirius satellite radio reception on our '16 Ram 3500 crew-cab when we loaded up our new '19 Northern Lite 8-11. The OEM antenna sits completely underneath the cabover section. Much to our surprise we've had no problem receiving Sirius radio with the camper loaded.
- towproExplorerI have a 2018 ram. the Radio is not NAV but the truck has a service like onstar (uconnect) so it has GPS in truck. truck also has ATT phone connection so there is 2 wires going up to shark fin on roof.
I took apart one of the connectors and found the standard magnetic mount Sirius antenna connect right into the cable for the radio SAT. putting the mag mount antenna out on the hood took care of the problem and the GPS in the truck still works.
I know sirius and GPS use different frequencies, but it works. - TxGearheadExplorer IIMine works OK most of the time. I can't remember which way I'm traveling when it loses reception, maybe northwest?
I plug in Apple ITunes when I lose XM.
