To the OP, please be safe on the road until you up grade to a 3/4 ton truck.

It feels like someone needs to ask "After he gets a 3/4 ton truck does he no longer need to be safe on the road?"
The only real potential issue I see with current truck. Is the HW part is the sales brochure amount. Not an actual amount. Which may be higher by 100-200 lbs depending upon how the OP is loaded. Yeah it puts him above gvwr for the truck. but probably not above the axel ratings.....
So is he safe or not? I guess that depends upon ones definition. Ive spent many miles over the gvwr, but under axel wt limits, I've spent many miles over gcwr, which if you really look at the J2087 specs, is nothing more than a how fast one can go, accelerate etc, ie performance spec.
With that in mind, yeah dad's 350 might pull it better, then again, maybe not! I know my 3/4 ton would pull better than an older one ton I had, better than my mdt.....Handle the trailer wt tho, would be the worst. BUT, any of these rigs could end up in the ditch of the trailer is loaded wrong, some kind of natural occurrence happens......
