What gets lost in these types of threads (mainly 'half ton') is that most
anything 'can do it'...heck even the Space Shuttle 'can be towed' by a half ton...
'How well', 'how long' and the biggie...how will it be able to manhandle it
when Mr Murphy crosses its path?
Not just ability to get it going and how fast, but its ability to manhandle, meaning
maneuver, stop, etc within its specifications.
Those specifications has stopping distance at maximum ratings and
over the OEM's ratings will have the whole thing take more
distance to stop
A VERY good example is that half ton towing the Space Shuttle and am guessing
for a few miles...going...maybe 10 MPH or so....how long can it do that?
A bit over rating and will wear it out sooner than later. Being over rating
just a small bit will NOT wear it out as soon as towing a 'dry' Space
Shuttle weighing in at approx 165,000 pounds empty
Also, most only see/think of the good days out there when a riding lawn mower
'can do it', but all things designed/engineered are not for those good days,
but for the worst day out there when Mr Murphy crosses your path.
Either you have the right sized stuff or not...no time to go back to the
store for bigger/better...nor time to re-setup. Either it there spot on
or not
Will the driver be able to manhandle it? That is a guess or only when you
actually experience that situation.
For me...I want as much margin as I can find/pay for/etc...no just barely
for me and my family...but that is just me...who many use the derogatory
'Weight Police' in their attempt to discredit something they do NOT want
to hear/read...there is no policing on these freebie forums...other than
the rules each of us agreed to when we signed...
