Yes...product design teams dial in margin, but not for their buyers to consume
Mechanical things do wear and ultimately fail from wearing out.
How soon is the critical metric for the product design team, as they are also
responsible for the service life/costs of their design
Along with meeting the Gov Agency MANDATED performance specifications. They
are also told by management to 'just meet' those specifications...plus some
amount of margin to make sure it will continue to meet those specifications
throughout its LIFE SPAN, which is the warranty period...plus a bit for
reputation/sales/etc
The harder you make your in-animate object perform...the sooner it will
wear out...sooner if you are using the OEM dialed in margin
Do what you want...as most all of my posts these days are for the lurkers
and those asking for opinions on whatever the topic is...
