Fact:
There will be more petroleum vehicles on the road 20 years from now as battery technology hasn't even scratched the surface and likely never will in HD applications.....it's commuter technology only.
Yes might be a long time before mobile construction and excavation equipment gives up diesel. Although I could see some converting depending on the situation.
For years some of the underground mining equipment has run on electricity. The portable crusher and screening plant we moved half dozen times uses electric motors all over it. 1 of the trailers is a big gen-set and battery bank. They tell me that while running below a certain output power is stored to help with the starting load on the big motors.
I know of a few water drilling rigs that use vegetable oil in hydraulics. If a leak happens it is much cheaper to clean up.
The oil companies understand that demand for gasoline will go down. They are pushing more uses for plastic to have a market for what they still have in the ground.
