Yes if you want to run a scraper 16+ hours a day it is going to remain diesel.
At the same time we have all seen these backhoes dig for an hour or two for access to something. Then hours or days to make the repair before the hole is refilled. May not even need a charge until the next job.
And of course we have all seen the huge counter weights on a crane... just turn those into batteries. Crane is often intermittent use and might go all day just fine. Park next to the temporary power at night.
