However if you figure about a 1200 lbs. tongue weight and a 200 lbs. driver you are probably near the max cargo capacity. You can probably squeeze in a bit more if you do not mind the wear and tear of a couple of hundred lbs. over the max cargo capacity. Anyone who has worked a farm during harvest has seen that.
Been there done that..What extra wear and tear have you seen compared to a 3/4 ton doing the same over payload task?
I'm sorry..I have seen so many 1/2 tons hauling 8 ft campers(without a slide) without any extra wear and tear/broken axles/bent frames or bent wheels or stripped spindles...None at all....
Most everyone here gets firewood for the winter in there truck. Most if not all are overloaded with a cord or more on gravel wash board roads and again, none of the above extra wear and tear. And they do this frequently without any mishaps or break downs. If someone told them they were over there payload, they would get a chainsaw thrown at them and called a flatlander.:B
Note:I'm not saying for anyone to overload there TV but I am saying out of experience you should not see any extra wear and tear nor any unsafe towing when your towing at near Max or Max itself with any newer rated truck if......
You have the ability and experience to do so!..If not..Don't even think it!
