I'd second the recommendation to go 2009+ and get the 6 spd. It is a significant improvement over the 4 spd.
I can't see any reason to go with the shorter Tahoe over the 'Burb/YXL. They cost the same, the extra length is inconsequential for driving, mpg, etc., but the extra space and 'real' back seat sure come in handy.
