Why did I time it? Well, I was curious as to why everyone felt the Pilot was underpowered. Cause its not. Not only does it have plenty of power...
Thank you, Rincon, for your information. I started this thread because I keep thinking I should upgrade my Pilot for a more robust tow vehicle such as a Dodge Durango, but in actuality the Pilot tows pretty darn well at my usual 55 to 60 mph. It does have to huff and puff up long, steep inclines, but I am getting increasingly comfortable letting the engine run up to 5000 rpm in 2nd when necessary.
It's coming down to a decision between the 2014 Dodge Durango with the 8-speed transmission that is being released in October, or waiting for the next generation Pilot with the direct injection V-6 that will probably be released in the Fall of 2014.

Well, we almost bought a 2008 Sequoia for more towing power when we go national next year. But the size of the Pilot was a huge reason why we bought it. My wife is the primary driver, and she parks in structures everyday, and is often down town where parking is very tight. She loves the Sequoia, as did I, but it was just too big. Even if dimensions said it wasn't huge, it felt huge and it wasn't easy to maneuver in tight spots. And I have a 60 mile daily commute, which kills big motors for me.
The next Gen Pilot probably wont get a huge bump in HP, but it will get a good bump in torque with direct injection. Take a look at the new MDX which has the new engine. The Pilot's numbers will probably be just short of those. Just don't wait for 300hp, as I don't think we'll see it!
The latest gen Dodge Durango is a GREAT option for all the worlds needs. LOL. My wife and I just don't like the OEM, we'll buy anything but a Dodge. But that's just us. Others in my family swear by them.
Good luck!
