State farm first thought my new 2025 f550 was a commercial truck, and declined, but I sent them a photo of it with camper mounted and they changed their mind, and insured at about the same rate as my f350. I think it's about $1800/yr. While not exactly cheap, it is a $100k truck.
In CA, you can also send the DMV a notice that it is a full time camper hauler and they will rescind the commercial status so you can bypass scales.

I just got a preliminary quote of 1632.00 a year on the F550. They insure in 6 month intervals. I'm also having them quote the TC, F250, and House. I may receive a package discount, we shall see...
Thus far, I'm feeling much happier.
