Just to muddy the air conditioning water, there are DC air conditioners available, such as this. I though I might be able to run it with my 4 125ah 12v AGM batteries (plus 120w solar plus 2 gauge alternator charging), but the price was pretty high - $2100 when I asked in 2008.
btw, I live and camp mostly in Arizona, and have never felt the need of an AC. The right time of year and the right altitude makes a lot of difference.
