TC Right Rear Jack Framing Repair
TC Right Rear Jack Framing Repair
I go to TORKLIFT to have some custom sized truck Camper Tie Downs fabricated and installed. They look and fit nice. I also am rebuilding the right rear corner of the truck camper jack area. After I slid into a roadside ditch during the initial test drive of the new F250 5.4 liter engine, I had to be pulled through a ditch about 200 feet. During the pull, the truck and camper were leaning over about 40 degrees, very close to falling on the side. That would have been bad, but fortunately it didn't happen. The only damage was the right rear jack had been pulled back about 1/2" and did a little damage at the bottom of the right jack mount area. I disassembled everything and fabricated a heavier, taller, piece of aluminum angle. I also replaced the 2x2 frame section with a piece of 2x3 and sealed it inside a rubberized weather wrap. I also added some Simpson construction brackets to reinforce the area framing. I used all stainless connectors for long life. I'm also making a solid connection to the rear deck mount which will greatly solidify the framing. I still need to install 4AWG battery cable from the 325 AMP alternator back to the bed 100 amp lift gate plug to power the DC to DC charger for the truck camper lithium batteries. I also need to install a new 7 pin plug in the bed to power the truck camper lights and signaling. Oh and also I need to get a pair of front jack swing out bracket adaptors to load the truck camper and clear the dually fenders. That's it for now, I'm hoping to be hitting the road soon for a break in test road trip with the F550. Exciting times.
Not as bad as it looks. I clean it out, caulk the joint, install rubber weather seal over the corner, under the aluminum angle.Adding additional Simpson steel framing brackets and SS Fasteners and new wood framing.Clamping the aluminum angle tight into the corner, then bolting everything tightly together. Feels very solid! At TorkLift getting custom fitted tie downs fabricated for the F-550A less modest angle of the work in progress. I was stuck there from 10:00 to 5:00. Not happy but it's done.Title Page.I hope you found something interesting and useful within this video.
