Dixie, I know I am not the only one who wish they were closer to give you a hand. You have taken on a huge project. I know some of this has been mentioned but here is my two cents. Have you ever heard that dogs have uncondional love ? These dogs will not hate you for some dicipline. The best thing is to forget thier past and live in the moment. now that you have earned thier trust you need to earn thier respect. If you show them you are the leader they will actually be happier, because they now have someone to follow. I think the had thier own order when on thier own and I think they need a new structure with you and Sue on top. It sounds like they look up to Old Fella and that will help some. I agree with getting some collars and leashes on them. Start with Anna and make a few trips around the block. Once you get her going add another one.
You may even be able to use one of the adult dogs to lead by example. I also agree with them eating in thier crate, at least until things scale down a bit. I think you are a brave person to take on such a project and don't worry I think all of us are aware you are going to run out of patience. so feel free to vent. We will all send good thoughts your way.
