Oh yeah, this reminds me when we had to put our buddy down because was getting so aggressive toward little dogs we had taken him to the vet and they tested his Thyroid to see if it was imbalanced. They said if imbalanced it will cause aggressiveness and it is treatable too. Perhaps this is what Roscoe is suffering from?
