A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Went camping this weekend at a campground on the lake, had not been there for a few years. Once there I began to walk around looking at the different sites when I noticed a very old dog. He just lay there until I got too close then he got up on three legs and hobbled away. Just judging I would say he is at least 11 years old. Well back to my story. The next afternoon he wanders into camp and just sits there looking. He looked so sad, so the wife got a bowl of our dog's food and put it down for him and he came over and ate. He then walked over to our dog and the two of them sniffed each other over and then they lay down together for the rest of the afternoon. That night he disappeared.
The next morning he was back and was a little more receptive of me. I looked at his injured leg and found that half of his rear foot was gone. It had healed and was not causing any problem except that he was walking on the stub that was left with no foot pad which causes him to limp. His front teeth were gone except for one canine tooth and it looked decayed. His eyes were tired looking and showing his age. He spent the rest of the day just laying around looking for a handout and by afternoon the campground host came around and saw him. I enquired about the dog and was told he had been there for three years and that most of the campers were tolerant of him and gave him food.
So what to do? Do you pick him up and bring him home or do you let nature take it course. He can't harm anyone, he has no teeth and he isn't a nuisance unless you don't like dogs, and no one seems to mind him being there. He is gentle and likes other animals as seen by his interaction with our dog. He still would not let me touch him but he would eat from my hand. Enough said, what would you do???

On June 28th 2008 Old Fella passed away of complications caused by bone cancer. Fella spent almost three years with his new family and became the icon of rescued old stray dogs. He will be greatly missed but his foot prints have been left in our hearts forever.

Now Charlie, the ten year old rescued Golden Lab has come to be a part of the continuing Old Fella story. (*Note, Charlie took his journey to Rainbow Bridge unexpectedly September 30, 2008)Suzie continues to charm her way into our hearts with her antics as she has grown from a puppy into a young lady. Togther they will carry on the Old Fella legacy. Come join us in their daily lives and be a part of the best feel good thread in RV.NET history. The legacy lives on.

Just had to share that this morning when I let Anna out she was the happiest dog in the world. We got our first measurable snow (less than an inch) and she wanted to play, play, play. There was a low wind chill factor (about 16) so I put Sarah's coat on her and she went out and promptly took it off so she could play better. I just don't know how animals are so tolerant of the cold and love to play in snow. Lori

Now that we have settled the issue of a campground in Ohio for the Old Fella Rally folks can start registering.

We had a nice day today going to Hilton Head, South Carolina shopping and a nice lunch at a sea food restaurant. We got back to the camper and the girls were glad to see us and wanted to go for a walk. Later I built a fire in the fire pit and we sat outside and chatted with our new neighbors until the fire burned down to coals and then came inside and ate a sandwitch. I am about to settle down for the evening in the recliner, watch some TV and then call it a day.

A campgrounds for the Old Fella Rally has been booked. It is in the middle of Amish Country 1 mile east of Berlin, Ohio even though it has a Millersburg address.
Scenic Hills RV Park

They have blocked off 15 sites for us. These are all full hook-up sites. The sites blocked are from June 11-17, 2012. They will most likely have a shelter house built by the first of May so we should be good on that.

Rates are $30/day or 3 days/$75 or the week for $165 and requires a $25 deposit. The owners are planning on going to Florida but will have the phone transferred to their cell phone. Phone for reservations is:330-893-3607 Can't use a credit card over the phone. You can call and make the reservation then drop them a check in the mail for it. Mary said that if you call she will answer if she is not on the beach.
Please let me know when you reserve so I can start a list of folks.

Their actual opening is April 1st 2012

I will amend this post as time goes on. Feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions.

Please e-mail me or go to the Rally Post to let me know. Thanks

We arrived safely yesterday afternoon. We could not get on Interstate 95 at all so we continued down Interstate 26 to HWY#15 and cut across to #17 and then HWY#21 into Beaufort and then on to hunting Island. I cannot understand how an Interstate can come to a stand still for 50 miles. This is the second time we have had this problem so we won't try coming that way again.

The weather her is nice, almost can go without a jacket. We went for a walk in the beach this morning with the girls and had a great time. Our campsite used to be a pull through but with the loss of so many campsites on the beach side they cut up some sites and made them smaller. The one I selected almost a year ago when I booked the reservation was one that was cut in half and made two site out of one. We got the camper in the site with a lot of back and forth, twisting and turning and drawing a crowd with everyone trying to help with hand signals and voice commands while Sue was talking to me on the two-way radio. Where is the video camera when you need one.

We are out of here. I don't know if we will be able to post to the forum even with the air card as we have always had trouble with connections at Hunting Island. Anyway I will try when we get there, if not I will see you in a week.

It is raining this morning and the weatherman says it will be here all day. It is cool outside at 40* so it is a good morning to stay inside and throw another log on the fire. The girls went outside but didn't stay long. We will finish packing the camper today and leave in the morning for Hunting Island. Ava will come to keep Izzie company so he won't be alone.

Now that Christmas has come and gone we now wait for the New Year to come in. I hope and pray the coming year will be good for everyone in the FOOF family. Yesterday I lost a friend I went to school with, Billy Carter. His fight with cancer was short, but he showed courage all the way through, a fine Christian man. I wish his family good days ahead as they remember the legacy this man left behind.

Good morning, it's the day after Christmas and I hope everyone had a blessed day. We celebrated with family at two locations Christmas day. First we had a breakfast gathering at Allison and Jeff's house Christmas morning and in the afternoon we had dinner at Ava and Travis house. Everyone had a great time and enjoyed the day. I still have pictures to post of the fur gang, sorry I'm late but I will try and get to it today.

Tomorrow we have a storm system coming in which promises to dump a lot of rain. We will be leaving Wednesday so hopfully the rain will be cleared out by the time we pull out.

I talked with my daughter and her future husband yesterday and the wedding will be in the spring of 2012. Ed is an ordained minister so I am hopeful they will have a successful marriage for the years ahead. Okay have a blessed day I gotta go.
