We are going to be coming out of Death Valley in a week. We were curious, taking the time of the year into consideration, about routes to Port Angeles Wash. We have to arrive there by March 31st.
We traveled the coast home last year and were thinking of staying more inland this year....and off I-5.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you're wrong.

Leave Death Valley to the east and get on US95 then head north to Reno and pick up US395 there.

For General Info; If you have a tooth ache near Klamouth falls, DON'T bother trying to get help at the Tribal medical facility.

SR190 to the 395 - NO !

korbe x4 --- will be doing that route starting further south on the 395 and heading to OR Coast. And you can stay in Likely ! Honest! (Make sure you visit the basement of the General Store)

When you get to Bishop check the Calif. road info phone line. If the roads & weather are not good there is an alternate route I take in the winter out of Bishop to Carson City/Reno. Take Hyway 6 to SR360 to NV 95 to I-80 west to Reno then 395 S to Carson City. The truckers use this route to avoid climbing over the Sierras & the snow and high passes. Make sure you fill up in Bishop, not much along this route.

SR-190 from Death Valley to US-395 is quite steep and not recommended for towing, I've done it once and never intend to do that route again

When someone tells you to buy the same rig they own, listen, they might be right. When they tell you to buy a different rig then they own, really pay attention, they probably know something you don't.

All good advice. We lived in the eastern sierras for many years weather can change quickly. The route through bend is a good one. Collier state park north of Klamath Falls is a nice place to stay with a good logging museum.
We just left Death Valley today btw. Had a great time hope you do too.

Hwy 395 north of Bishop up to Carson City is always at the mercy of the current weather. About all you can do is keep a close tab on the weather bureau. The altitude varies from about 4500 ft to over 8000 so you just never know.

Sorry, can't be of more help.
