A bit of the Dempster Highway

Most people who drive up the Dempster Highway only go as far as the Tombstone Range viewpoint at Km 74, not realizing that the best part of the highway starts just a few miles beyond that. Last week we camped for 2 nights at Tombstone, then took the toad up to Chapman Lake, only 40 km (25 miles further). I've posted 28 photos of the day on my blog.
  • The Dempster is in great shape this year. It was an easier drive than the North Klondike Highway last week.
  • In a few years we will be able to take the Dempster to Inuvik but then keep going to Tuktoyaktuk and take in the view of the Arctic Ocean/Beaufort Sea.
  • Some day I would love to do that drive... It'll be a while though - need more vacation time.
  • Wish we could join you but it is such a long drive from Southern Ontario!

The highway is in great shape. I'm thinking about going up again in the next couple of weeks.
  • Thanks for sharing your photos; they brought back some great memories. We have stayed at Tombstone C.G. 2X - pleasant place to overnight and on first occasion change a flat!

The highway looked in good condition.
  • Wonderful pictures! We will add Tombstone to our list of campgrounds we definitely need to stay in.
  • very nice, thanks! DH and his brother made a motorcycle trip up to Inuvik about 30 years ago and loved every bit of it.
