Chromedrome,
The Sandia Peak Tramway runs every day but Tuesday. You could take the tram up and walk the crest trail. Weekends are busy but you would be more likely to meet experienced hikers to talk and hike with. My husband and a buddy hike tram to tram. Parking at the Tramway parking lot walking the tram trail and then hook up with the LaLuz trail to the top then take the tram down. I personally have only done the trail at the top. To do these trails you must go up and come down the west side and not the east side where the road is. It is already warm/hot in the afternoons and the DH and his buddy left yesterday to do tram to tram at 6:30 and got down via tram at 12:00 the trail is 9 miles. The LaLuz it self is 7 miles one way but then you have to hike down or have someone pick you up at the base of the tram which is about 3.5 miles from La Luz Trail head.
I would say that the DH would hike with you but... we're leaving for cooler temps in Northern NM and my DH is hiking the highest peak in NM.
