Any Road Information Burwash to Beaver Creek, Yt<

Does anybody have good current information on road conditions on the Alaska Highway from Burwash to Beaver Creek. I have been hearing lots of comments from fellow travelers and you don't know what to believe.

Right now we are in Toad River working our way to Homer, should be there by June 11th.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
  • Haven't driven it yet this year; last September it was in better than usual condition. But now spring is here and the highway crumbles a bit as the frost thaws under the highway.

That section has frost heaves throughout.

As with the rest of the Alaska Highway, it will also have broken pavement/asphalt in places. Crews patch holes but with increased heavy traffic the road is subject to much abuse and any weakness breaks up.

Plan a slow drive through there. We usually plan four hours for the 100 miles between Burwash and Beaver Creek when towing the fifth wheel.

In my car, it's a faster drive as the frost heaves make an interesting roller coaster ride. For the truck & fifth wheel, the truck is up, the trailer is down then they rattle themselves the other way.

Between Whitehorse and Haines Junction there are some very rough patches that are a slow go even with my car as the heaves are sharp and it is very easy to bottom out the front shocks. The spots are well-marked. Do pay attention to the flags and SLOW down.
