Those routes look fine, really no other way to go. Road conditions are okay... in Connecticut, those sections were paved a few (5+?) years ago, so are starting to get a little bumpy but not bad.
Try to avoid leaving Hammonassette on a Sunday afternoon - traffic over the Connecticut River bridge in Old Saybrook can back up. But even so, you should still be moving.
Traffic in general on I95 in Connecticut is just... well, a lot of it. The last few years it has become common to drive through Newark and NYC and not really slow down until you hit Connecticut. Nothing really to do about it - the Google maps "recommended detours" will rarely save you any time, and will have you driving all over side roads. Unless you really know the area, usually it is best to relax, turn up the air conditioning, and adjust the radio.
Hammonassette is a great campground. Lenny&Joe's seafood is the best closest place to eat - they are right outside the entrance to the park. Donahue's restaurant (across from Lenny&Joes) is a nice sit down restaurant, with really good food. Prices are a little $$$, you are on the shore in the middle of the summer season. If you want top end restaurant, The Wharf restaurant in Madison (the town the Hammonassette is in) is routinely rated tops, and you pay for it.
The Stop and Shop grocery store in Madison is fine for supplies. If you can, buy fuel in the center of Madison - the gas station right outside the park adds a few cents per gallon, and the highway rest stop gas stations are normally 10+ cents more per gallon.
