Hi all, new to this forum so forgive me for asking but is there a way or a certain time of day to go I 75 through Atlanta,GA? Normally, we go around this city by the airport and go north that way. Any recommendations are welcome. Thanks and Safe Travels.

We’ve done it during church hours on Sunday. However, we listen to gospel music while we are in the city.

You never know what you will find in ATL, it can be like a living, breathing beast from the depths of hell, and sometimes it's not to bad. I've lived in the area for 10 years now, and hate going into the city. You can't predict whether you are better with 285, or going straight through, one wreck an it changes.

A GPS with traffic data makes things much better, but it can change quickly. Just fuel up and go to the bathroom before you hit town and be patient. I used to get so frustrated with the traffic. Now when we are stopped, I just remind myself that atleast we aren't in the wreck that is causing the slow down.

Came through a month ago on a Saturday, on purpose, about 11 AM. Just north of downtown, large backup, all lanes. About 3 miles later a sign stating the 6 of the 8 north bound lanes closed. Then after another couple of miles at a top speed of 7 mph, we find them resurfacing 2 of the 6 lanes. 4 were void of anything.

10am until 2pm works best for me during a week day. But, Fridays are crowded.

I usually go right through the middle of town, but if you rather take 285 around it works well too.

Don't dread it... enjoy it at your speed and let everyone else go around you.

Whenever we went thru we always aim for before 3pm and usually it goes pretty well. Throw in something like a minor accident or even a car on the side of the road and all bets are off.

The second lane from the right soon becomes the right lane and then becomes an exit only.....going north or south.

Much better to stay in the second lane from the LEFT (not counting the express lane) IF you can keep up with the speed of traffic.

Semi trucks are not allowed on 75/85 through town, so the 185 bypass is full of trucks all the time.

Best path is right through the middle......before 6am, after 7pm or between 10am and 2pm. There is no guarantee though and "stuff" happens occasionally everywhere.

Most if not all large cities have online traffic flow maps.

Atlanta is always just a guessing game. The Braves stadium is at the intersection of I75 and I285 on the north side, so anytime a game is scheduled, you can bet traffic around that area will be extra bad. Weekends often brings lane closures and congestion. Rush hour extends to 10 AM and starts as early as 3 PM. If you are staying on I 75, I actually prefer using I 285 and not go through downtown.
