Celebrating every 100 years would leave a lot of people out- if born in 1968 they will never experience a celebration unless they live to be 100 - and likely by then will never know what's going on around them, much less want to go camping. Another of those who can't count, and perhaps celebrated the arrival of the 21st century at the end of 1999 with the rest of all those goofies (who also think there are only 99 cents in a dollar?) .
Wrt the above quote, if you were born after 1 July 1968, then you will be 100 after 1 July in 2068 and back during the 200th anniversary of Confederation in 2067, you were 98, so you don't have to live to be 100 to see it through.
Also, if you are one of those bewildered obituary writers who keep saying Bloggins died in his 85th year (which means he was 84) but he was 85 (in his 86th year), please use your brain. Thanks.
