Best route from West Yellowstone to Missoula

We use RT 287 also, but cut off at RT 359 that brings you out a little further west on I-90 at exit 256. Sitting here at Bakers Hole CG just out of West Yellowstone on RT 191, 38 degrees at 6 AM this morning.

When you hit I-90 you can back up a couple of miles to the east and visit the Missouri Headwaters State Park. That's where the Madison, Jefferson, and Gallatin rivers converge to form the Missouri.

we just did that trip and took 287. Glad we did!

US 287 is our preferred route. Good scenery along the river toward Ennis.

We just took the 287 on that route. Good road and some interesting stops. We like the Quake Lake visitors center.
